“My favorite pass time is really just exploring/hiking. I like discovering new areas and what they have to offer culturally. I also like to discover what Pokémon spawn in these areas. I play Pokémon Go because it combines all of my interests into one. As mentioned, I love exploring new areas and cultures, so there’s the “Go” and the “Pokémon Go”. Pokémon, the franchise, combines my interest in nature, biology and the environment. Pokemon Go made it so that certain Pokémon spawn in different biomes and I just love that. Like finding Wiglett spawning at Belmar Beach, I just find it cool.

Pokémon Go also provides the right amount of social activity for me. I am sure I appear pretty outgoing in my big Pokémon groups, but I actually really like my me time and just doing my own thing. When I am feeling social again, I check on my group and make sure they are having a great time. This would also be a place to mention I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology. So, people’s inner functionings are another interest of mine as i do get a variety of people playing this game.

“I started playing Day 1, but then I took a couple of breaks in between. After my break, I returned to the game have been playing heavily for about 2-3 years. 

I created the community around the time that Mega Rayquaza was released. This was during GoFest global! Seeing so many people actively playing the game that my area would benefit from a local group. Within a year it took off and became the group it is today. 

Easily, Magikarp is my favorite Pokémon. This Pokémon is misunderstood at times. It is often forgotten it, but it becomes one of the most powerful Pokémon after training, love, and care. Also, I like it because the shiny is considered to bring you good luck, if ever found. My favorite past time would have to be gaming. Even though I’m a CA, I still game on my console. I have been known to stream at times as well.

Why do I do this? Easy, for the smiles! Seeing people relive this nostalgic game and amass big groups, like in 2016, is what drives me. People thank me constantly for creating this community, and that in itself fuels my desire to continue. They say that the community has helped socially, also assisting them in making new long lasting friendships with new people. The memories we make also motivate me and make me want to continue running and growing our community. It also has helped me become a better person. I have give me leadership skills and i can apply those elsewhere. It is an absolutely amazing feeling to be there for the community.
